Terms of Service
The rules of the Shatun Brothers marketplace — for people who request handyman work and for handymen who provide it.
1. What Shatun Brothers is
Shatun Brothers operates an online marketplace that connects Los Angeles–area homeowners and renters ("Seekers") with independent handymen and licensed contractors ("Pros"). We are not the employer of any Pro. Pros are independent businesses responsible for their own licensing, insurance, workmanship, and tax obligations. We match, we facilitate, we mediate — we do not perform the work.
2. Accepting these terms
By using the site, requesting a quote, or registering as a Seeker or Pro, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the platform.
3. Seeker obligations
- Provide accurate information when requesting a quote — service needed, address, scope.
- Be present or provide site access for the agreed-upon visit window.
- Pay Pros on the terms you agreed to. Non-payment is grounds for suspension.
- Don't use the platform to solicit work outside the platform (i.e., don't take matched Pros off-platform to avoid the commission).
- Provide honest reviews reflecting actual experience. False reviews are grounds for suspension.
4. Pro obligations
- Hold all licenses required by California law for the services you offer (CSLB license for jobs over $500, specialty licenses where applicable).
- Maintain general liability insurance with minimum $1M per-occurrence coverage while active on the platform.
- Respond to quote requests within 24 hours. Repeat no-response closes your profile.
- Show up for scheduled visits at the agreed time. If you can't, reschedule with as much notice as possible.
- Complete work to reasonable industry standard and honor the quote you gave barring genuinely unforeseen site conditions.
- Don't solicit Seekers off-platform to avoid commission.
- Comply with California tax law, workers-comp rules, and lead-safe practices for pre-1978 homes.
5. How payment works
Seekers pay Pros for work performed. Shatun Brothers charges Pros a commission on completed jobs — the commission is built into the Pro's quoted price, not added on top. Payment can flow directly between Seeker and Pro, or through the platform's payment processor where available. For platform-facilitated payment, funds are released to the Pro on job completion or on the agreed milestone schedule.
Shatun Brothers does not hold escrow beyond the release period. Disputes initiated during the release window pause the release until mediated.
6. Disputes
If you have a problem with a job:
- Contact the other party first in good faith.
- If unresolved, use the contact form with subject line "Dispute" within 14 days. Include the job reference, photos if applicable, and a summary.
- We review evidence, talk to both sides, and propose a resolution. We don't litigate — we mediate.
- If mediation fails, either party can pursue remedies under California law. These terms don't waive either party's right to small-claims court.
7. Content you post
Photos, reviews, job descriptions, and messages you post remain yours, but you grant Shatun Brothers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute them in connection with running the platform. Content that is illegal, defamatory, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or threatening is removed.
8. Liability and warranties
Shatun Brothers is provided "as is." We don't guarantee any specific outcome from a matched job. We don't warrant Pro workmanship — that's between you and the Pro. We aren't liable for damages arising from the work a Pro performs, for disputes between Seekers and Pros, or for Pro conduct off-platform.
To the extent allowed by California law, our maximum aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from use of the platform is the total commission Shatun Brothers received from jobs associated with you in the 12 months before the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
9. Suspension and termination
We can suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms, fraud, repeated disputes, or actions that harm other users or the platform. You can close your account at any time by emailing us.
10. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes not resolved through platform mediation are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Los Angeles County, California. This does not limit your right to bring a claim in small-claims court where otherwise available.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes are announced via email to registered users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
12. Contact
