About Shatun Brothers
A Los Angeles–only handyman marketplace built by people who got tired of national platforms matching LA homeowners with pros who've never worked on a 1920s plaster-over-lath wall.
Why an LA-only platform
National handyman marketplaces optimize for reach, not fit. You post a job in Silver Lake and get quotes from pros who mostly work in the Inland Empire. The first visit turns into an education — no, plaster isn't drywall; no, you can't drill into a pre-war structural column; no, the HOA hasn't approved that TV bracket.
Shatun Brothers only matches you with pros who work in Los Angeles full-time. Every handyman on our platform knows the code, the permits, the HOA quirks, the neighborhood parking reality, and the materials that actually last in the LA climate.
How we vet pros before they join
- LA work history — we ask for three verifiable LA jobs in the last 12 months. Pros who just moved in and haven't worked here yet go into a provisional pool.
- Customer references — we talk to prior customers, not just read forms. Word-of-mouth is the fastest filter.
- Review quality over volume — we'd rather have a pro with 12 detailed reviews than one with 200 stars and no text.
- Specialty know-how — pre-1978 lead-safe practice, earthquake-prep, HOA etiquette, LA parking logistics.
For jobs that legally require a licensed contractor in California — gas line work, electrical panel upgrades, roofing, pool systems — we route to licensed partner contractors and flag that clearly on the quote. We don't pretend a handyman is a contractor. See our California handyman vs. contractor guide for the full map.
How the platform makes money
We take a percentage of each completed job. You don't pay extra for using Shatun Brothers — the pro absorbs the platform fee into their quote, the same way they absorb any referral cost. Our incentive is to match jobs that actually close, because unfinished quotes don't pay us either.
We don't sell your data. We don't sell leads to non-vetted pros. We don't take payment for preferential placement — ranking is based on review quality, response time, job-completion rate, and specialty match to your request.
Who built this
Shatun Brothers is built by operators who own LA-based service businesses themselves. We know the pain from both sides: as homeowners tired of no-show handymen, and as pros tired of platforms that treat us like interchangeable labor. The platform reflects both perspectives.
Where we're headed
LA first, properly — all 35 handyman service categories, full neighborhood coverage, a pro pool deep enough that every request gets multiple real quotes. Once LA is solid, we expand to other California metros (San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento), then out-of-state carefully. We'd rather be the best marketplace in one city than a mediocre one everywhere.
