Emergency handyman repairs: urgent fixes when it matters
Entry door off the frame at 11 PM, water spraying behind a wall, no power in half the house. Our LA on-call roster exists for this window. You don't chase pros at midnight.
What emergency response covers
DIY vs. hire — which makes sense for your job
When DIY works
Knowing where your main water shutoff valve is — that is the #1 DIY emergency skill. If a pipe bursts, shutting off the main saves thousands in water damage while you wait for help. Similarly, knowing your breaker panel layout prevents panic during a partial outage.
When to call us
After you have stopped the immediate damage (water off, power off, area secured), call us for the repair. We handle the fix — plywood on a broken window, temp patch on a pipe, rekeyed locks, fallen branch cleanup. Non-emergency repairs are scheduled normally after the urgent fix.
Permits, codes, and safety
Emergency repairs are permit-exempt in California when necessary to prevent immediate harm to persons or property. You fix first, pull permits after (if required). Permanent plumbing repair may need a permit; the emergency shutoff and temp patch do not. Board-up and lock change never require permits.
This hub covers emergency response generally. For LA-specific pricing, neighborhood detail, and local codes, see our Los Angeles emergency response page.
