Lock and security service: deadbolts, smart locks, rekey, cameras
Lost key, new tenant move-in, a move-in night you want to sleep through. Rekey beats new locks in 80% of cases and costs a quarter. We know which case is yours before we quote.
What locks & security covers
DIY vs. hire — which makes sense for your job
When DIY works
Swapping a deadbolt into an existing cut is 15 minutes with a screwdriver — fully DIY. Rekeying requires a locksmith kit or replacement lock cylinder. Installing a new deadbolt in an uncut door is a drill job that's doable DIY with a hole saw kit but easy to crack the door face. Door reinforcement is where pros earn fees — longer screws into studs matter for break-in resistance.
When to hire
A pro carries a full deadbolt install kit, a set of standard cylinders, and matching hardware colors. Door reinforcement with 3"+ screws into the stud: 20-30 minutes. Rekey: 30-45 minutes.
Permit, license, and safety
Lock and security install is handyman scope. No permit required. No license required for standard lock hardware work. Locksmiths carry specific state credentials for rekeying + key duplication on secured locks — we route rekey jobs to partner locksmiths.
Exception: commercial building-wide access control systems (key-fob, badge systems) may require a low-voltage C-7 license or specific security contractor credentials, depending on scope.
