Exterior painting service: siding, stucco, trim, doors

South- and west-facing LA walls fade in three summers with the wrong paint. With the right prep, primer, and exterior-grade product, they hold color for 10+ years. The cost difference is in the prep, not the paint.

✓ Siding + stucco + trim ✓ Power wash + prep ✓ Sun-exposure paint ✓ Two-coat standard

DIY vs. hire — which makes sense for your job

When DIY works

Small front-door repaint: DIY (1-2 hours). Garage-door repaint: DIY with a 4" roller (3-4 hours). Full-siding or full-stucco exterior repaint: not DIY. Ladder work + prep + multi-coat application on a 2-story home = a week of labor with ladder safety risk.

When to hire

A pro power-washes the home, scrapes loose paint, primes exposed spots, fills cracks (caulk or spackle), and applies 2 coats of exterior-rated paint. Standard timing: single-story home 3-5 days, two-story 5-8 days depending on weather and stucco texture.

Permit, license, and safety

Exterior painting is handyman scope under §7048 for work under $500, which rarely covers a full home repaint. Full exterior repaints typically run $4,000-12,000 and technically require a CSLB-licensed contractor. Enforcement is loose; most shops have a CSLB license or sub-contract to a licensed painter for the main work.

Pre-1978 homes: EPA RRP rules apply to any work that disturbs lead paint (scraping, sanding, power-washing). RRP-certified pros use dust containment and proper waste disposal. We route pre-1978 exterior paints to RRP-certified partners.
